Many people thought that Nigel Farage would once again become UKIP leader after Theresa May’s awful Florence speech last week, but that has not been the case
Henry Bolton has been elected to be the new leader of UKIP.
According to Wikipedia: “Henry David Bolton OBE (born 1963) is a British politician. He is a former British Army officer, once described as a leading expert on developing and implementing integrated border management strategies. He was awarded the OBE in 2013 for services to international security.”
Here’s a short clip of Mr Bolton speaking:
He will be the parties fourth leader in just over a year.
Mr Bolton took 29.9% of the overall votes.
I must confess that I was not sure who he was when I heard the news.
The UKIP vote crashed in the general election as many previous voters flocked to the mainstream parties.
Mr Bolton spoke about himself on his campaign website saying:
“I am a former infantry officer and tank crewman. I passed out from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as Best Overall Cadet and served in the UK, Germany, Belize, Cyprus and Bosnia. I later became a police officer with Thames Valley Police before being deployed to various conflict areas by the government (Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Georgia, Central Asia, Libya, Ukraine) on senior diplomatic secondments to the Organisation for Security & Cooperation in Europe (www.osce.org), the UN, the EU and on UK tasks.”
