BREAKING: Terror in Paris as reports of ‘shots fired’

There are reports of shots being fired as an armed man smashes into a police van with his car

An armed driver who slammed a car into a police van has been shot dead, authorities in France said.

The government confirmed there is a security incident at Champs-Elysees.

Paris police on Monday said they are “in control” after armed police stormed the shopping district in the city centre.

Witnesses say a police van was hit by another vehicle which was the on fire sparking the major response.

“It looks like this was a deliberate act,” Pierre-Henry Brandet told reporters at the scene.

One witness, who was just 20 metres from the scene, said: “Large bangs followed by what sounded like shots fired near a car with smoke coming out of it on Champs Elysees.”

Armed officers have been pictured surrounding a police cordon after reports of a man on the ground.

A bomb squad has been deployed.

France was hit heavily last year with terror attacks killing hundreds.

The events today in Paris come just 12 hours after a man used a van to attack civilians outside a Mosque in London.

The UK has been victim to 3 terror attacks in a 3 month period. 2 in London and 1 in Manchester.
