Norway is set to become the next country in Europe to ban the Burka
Norway’s minority centre-right government is confident the opposition will support the ban, which includes all balaclavas.
The UK has to properly debate the issue of the Burka, but I believe many people would support Norway’s stance.
Education Minister, Torbjorn Roe, said: “These clothes prevent good communication, which is important for students to receive a good education.”
Immigration Minister, Per Sandberg, echoed the comments, adding: “Face-covering garment such as the niqab or burqa do not belong in Norwegian schools. The ability to communicate is a basic value.”
If the law is passed Norway would become the first Nordic country to crackdown on Islamic headwear.
Employees who insist on wearing a veil would risk losing their jobs, and students could face expulsion from the university.
Do you support such ban, or is it an invasion of personal freedoms/privacy.
There is a lot of hypocrisy in the UK. Motorbike riders cannot enter a bank with their helmet on, but someone in a burka is pretty much encouraged to do so…that sounds fair to me!
Austria, France and Belgium, which have all placed restrictions on wearing full-face veils in public places, I hope one day the UK follows suit.
We will be doing a poll on the Burka later today, so make sure you vote!
