Sadiq Khan is urging building developers to introduce ‘gender neutral’ toilets in a celebration of diversity in the capital.
Khan said: “I have vowed to be a mayor for all Londoners so I am determined to ensure that everyone has the ability to enjoy our great city to its fullest.
“Toilets are a vital public service and can help to shape the experience of the capital for those who live here and for those visiting. We need a range of toilets that reflect the incredible diversity of this city – giving people the confidence to move around London with dignity.”
Chief executive of LGBT rights lobby group Stonewall, Ruth Hunt, said: “Gender-neutral toilets are a practical solution for many people for many reasons and it’s a powerful demonstration of acceptance that has benefits for everyone.
“But this move isn’t just practical, it’s symbolic. By introducing gender-neutral toilets, planners can show that London is a city that cherishes its diverse population.”
Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, told London’s Evening Standard: “This is the latest casualty of an ideological tsunami that sweeps commonsense and biological reality aside.”
The new toilets are set to make “to help trans and non-binary people feel more comfortable”.
Do you agree with the use of these toilets?
Would you use one?

The London Mayor has not been selected to speak at Labours party conference next month when asked why Mr Khan was unable to give a straight answer.
O’Brien asked: “Are you going to be speaking at the Labour conference”
When asked if he would be speaking, Mr Khan said: “So far, it doesn’t look like it.”
Asked why, he stated: “I’m not criticising the leadership for wanting there to be more space for members to speak,” to which James replied: “I’m not asking you to.”
Mr Khan answered: “The Labour Party Leadership wants to allow as much time possible for members” and James hit back: “With respect Mayor Khan, that’s rubbish.”
O’Brein replied: “You’re the most powerful Labour politician in the Country” Khan interrupted saying “That’s very kind of you to say so”.
The host continued “It’s a statement of fact, actually, Andy Burnham is probably the second most powerful Labour MP in the country, he’s the mayor of Manchester and neither of you are going to speak at the Labour party conference, just tell me why?”
Khan stuttered his response back saying “it’s not my decision so I can’t tell you why”
O’Brien pushed further asking the mayor why he thinks he was not asked to speak.
Again the host said “Why won’t they let you speak, I’m not going to let this go”
After 8 attempts, Sadiq Khan eventually gave an answer saying that he believes the Labour party want to put its core members first, those who ‘work their socks off’.
