WATCH: Iain Duncan Smith MOCKS Merkel and EU over THREATS towards Britain

Ian Duncan Smith slammed German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the European Union before calling on the government to ignore their ‘nonsense’.

The EU’s threatening attitude towards the UK should be ‘ignored,’ said the Conservative politician.

The 27 remaining EU countries met today to discuss their guidelines and framework for the Brexit negotiations.

Speaking to Iain Dale on LBC, the Tory MP said the EU was bound to be sending warning signs to the UK.

He said: “What we saw from Mrs Merkel and all of the EU was the usual concerted attempt to try and threaten the UK.

“Which frankly made me laugh because that’s of course what they would do wouldn’t they.

“Yesterday Donald Tusk came out and said they wouldn’t be that interested in trade. This is a bloke that doesn’t run anything. Doesn’t make anything and doesn’t worry about jobs in Poland or jobs in France.

“All of that is just window dressing and just nonsense, we should just ignore it really.”

Mr Duncan Smith added: “The illusion that they have is that we are going to play the slightest bit of attention to this nonsense that is coming out of this 48-hour summit.

“This 48-hour summit is a choreographed affair. They have already sorted out that they will all agree, they have already sorted out what their lines are.

“This stuff from Donald Tusk and Mrs Merkel, no doubt somebody else will be trotted out tomorrow.

“They will come out with some other line about toughness. Of course, they are going to say that. At the moment you won’t get any sense.”

Only time will tell if we get a good, bad or no Brexit deal, here’s hoping for the former or latter.
